CONGRESSWOMAN SHEILA JACKSON LEE WELCOMES POPE BENEDICT XVI TO THE UNITED STATES

Jackson Lee States “As A Woman Of Faith, I Welcome Pope Benedict XVI On Behalf of My Constituents To The United States.”

Washington, DC- Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee released the following statement after attending a ceremony at the White House welcoming Pope Benedict XVI on his first trip to the United States:

“I welcome His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI on his first visit to the United States.  Along with millions of Americans, I am truly honored to hear his message of peace, hope, justice and goodwill to all. His call to work together on the challenges that we face as citizens of the world is a message that resonates with all people of different faiths.

“As a proud Representative of the 18th Congressional District in Houston, Texas, I fully understand the importance of the Catholic faith. Houston has a flourishing Catholic Community in which I have worked very closely with on issues such as immigration, healthcare and interfaith relations. Several weeks ago, I had the privilege of attending mass at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Houston. The Co-cathedral is a true work of art and a massive testament to the ever-growing Catholic community in the city of Houston.

“As a woman of faith, again, I welcome Pope Benedict XVI on behalf of my constituents to the United States. As the Catholic faith continues to spread around the world and in Houston, I am committed to graciously working along side with my constituents as well as world religious leaders of all different religious backgrounds to continue growing in faith and to strengthen our world. ”
